Presentation

In Alice's class last friday we had a speaker and a presentation.  His entire presentation was not only interesting but eye opening.  The artists he showed us were so extraordinary and uplifting.  Their stories and work really solidified why I want to be an art teacher and why I am doing this.  However he said one thing in particular that got me thinking.  He said being an artist is being a warrior and I feel this is true.  This is something I have struggled with from a young age an continue to struggle with as I move into my profession.  As an artist you are always fighting with yourself, battling your peers to get the top, defeating connotations and advocating not only for your work but for your craft.  As a teacher you are also always working and fighting for yourself and for your students.  What I have been struggling with is when does the battle end?  Is it ok to want to give up and admit defeat?
