Fieldwork day 2

Today I felt and understood the true pressures of being a teacher.  Today my class continued working on their still life drawings after learning about 1 and 2 point perspective.  However they had difficulties applying the basic skills they had regarding perspective to their actual drawings of books, boxes and other angular objects.  During my teachers prep period we talked about ways to improve their skills and to help them further understand perspective.  I told her how I think perspective is a difficult thing to understand because although their are rules and principles there are many exceptions to these rules.  I told her I think the students just need practice.  Therefore we decided their next project will be a city scape project that I will help teach.  My teacher thinks its a good way for me to teach value and go over concepts they should already understand.  However I spoke to her about taking a more contemporary approach to teaching this principle.  How can I put the postmodern principles into this lesson or how can I make it interesting? We decided that instead of just doing a regular city scape with paper and drawing materials we were going to use scratch paper and poke holes into the paper.  This way I can also teach effects like stippling and hatching.  I hope the students will better understand perspective through this project.
